Speaker: Brenda White is the media director of Starcom’s Magazine Investment Group, responsible for negotiating and planning all of the agency’s print advertising activities. She is a print investment veteran, managing a vast portfolio of clients that include Sara Lee, Canon and Morgan Stanley. Over the last 14 years, she has left her mark on Starcom’s most prestigious print clients: Philip Morris, Procter and Gamble and Kellogg’s. White’s innovator reputation has caused publishers to flock to Chicago to gain insight from her on the future of print.

He currently assists Canadian HR Reporter and New Internationalist with circulation marketing and has conducted research on circulation issues for the Department of Canadian Heritage and Magazines Canada.

Roanie Levy, an intellectual property lawyer, is Access Copyright’s Director of Legal Affairs and Government Relations. Roanie has gained considerable expertise working with the Department of Canadian Heritage and Industry Canada on copyright and patent issues. She is one of Canada’s leading experts on collective copyright management.

Achieving clarity, consistency and accuracy in editorial content is crucial for magazines. Errors in spelling, grammar and punctuation are more than embarrassing they can have serious consequences. This session is the perfect refresher on the common faux pas of the English language.

Patti Tasko has been at Canadian Press for 25 years, currently as Senior Supervising Editor and Editor of The Canadian Press Stylebook. Bernadette Kuncevicius has worked as a fact checker, copy editor and editor with many publications including Maclean’s, Canadian Business and CA Magazine.

International Speaker: Victor S. Navasky
Victor S. Navasky has served as Editor, Publisher and now Publisher Emeritus of The Nation, which he joined in 1978. The Nation, the oldest weekly American magazine, is considered a hallmark of critical and independent thought in its coverage of politics, culture, books and the arts. Navasky was the Editor of New York Times Magazine in the 1970s and the Founding Editor and Publisher of Monocle in the 1960s. As the George Delacorte Professor of Magazine Journalism at Columbia University, he directs the Delacorte Center of Magazines and chairs the Columbia Journalism Review. His books include Kennedy Justice, Naming Names and most recently, A Matter of Opinion, of which The New York Times said “[It] deserves shelf space beside George Gissing’s New Grub Street for its account of the lives of the inky wretches who fill the columns of little magazines with big thoughts...”
